The new growth office could be bad news for SEQs environment

Despite the window dressing this new office could be used to

Build at least two new dams in SEQ
Faciltate the expansion of polluting aquaculture around Moreton bay
Facilitate the expansion of the unaccountable Seaport and AirPort

Expand industry around the Brisbane River mouth
Duplicate the Gateway Bridge and Gateway Aterial
Push through the Western Brisbane Bypass

Massively expand existing road corridors mostly through bushland areas
Allow Powerlink to continue carving up bushlands and local communities with transmission lines
Force councils to allow extractive industries in floodplains, the Bay and areas like the Koala Coast using the new SPP Extractives

Promote urban and rural residential sprawl in the name of housing affordability
Make the fatally flawed SEQ 2021 Plan mandatory and will overide existing local protections

This new arrangement could effectively give the State Development Department the power force councils to accept unwanted developments such as SunAqua

BREC remains to be convinced that new growth office will really give a damn about Nature Conservation and Openspace in SEQ.
